On our way home from church

8:56 PM

After an absolutely beautiful LDS church meeting, (a special regional conference that reached the UK, Finland, Holland, Sweden, Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland) we decided to enjoy the beautiful weather and walk home. It gave us time to ponder and discuss what we'd each taken from them messages shared.

Our church building is located on Exhibition Road in South Kensington. It's the same street as the Museum of Natural History, Science Museum and right behind the Victoria and Albert Museum. A few minutes walk from Hyde Park and the building below...
The Royal Albert Hall. One of the most famous concert halls in England. Every year the BBC Proms are held here. An eight week summer season of classical concerts.

The Prince Albert Memorial. It's one of London's most ornate statues. A tribute of love and adoration from Queen Victoria, a loving wife. Maybe that's me romanticising it but it was unveiled to commemorate the death of Prince Albert who died of typhoid fever at age 42.

This is about the most central point on the south end of Hyde Park. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were enthusiastic patrons of art and music. The effects of their focus and support of the arts is seen all over England.

Such a lovely place, Hyde Park. You can tell why this park and Kensington Gardens were inspiring to J. M. Barrie.

J.M. Barrie lived nearby and published his first Peter Pan novel in 1902. Barrie wrote in his Peter Pan tale, The Little White Bird, that Peter flies out of his nursery and lands beside the Long Water. That is the exact spot where the statue was placed.

I love that there are so many people that try to fill any place they can with green. And such charming buildings everywhere.
