Let's talk about the food 02 July 2015

*disclaimer* if you're looking for excellent food photography, you won't find it here

Fish & Chip Co in Leicester (less-ter) Square. Not bad! I think it's a hard to mess up fish and chips but I particularly liked the thick and soft chips. Had zero salt so we got to salt our own food. Better than being over salted!

I worked near a cafe owned by a straight up Italian guy. He's always trying to get me to try new things. This Italian summer pasta salad with pickled mini onions, jalepeños, red onion, cherry tomatoes and mini gherkin (pickles). Not my thing. I can see how people could like it but I won't be seeking out Italian pasta salad this summer.

PIZZAEAST near the top of Portobello Road. Oven Mac & Cheese. Had to try it since Mac and Cheese is my favourite thing ever. It was great but I've had better :) However, it gets points because I love it when my food is serving piping hot. It clearly came out of the oven minutes before they brought it to me

Crispy pork and mushroom pizza. Yum! That pork was tasty and perfect. Would never have thought to put it on a pizza. And that's a bit of the pork rind (chicharrón) which in theory should be gross but it is oh, so good. Reminds me of home.

British treats. All of these are around £1-£1.50.
Hobnobs (traditional type of oat biscuit)
Flapjack (cereal or granola bar made from rolled oats, butter, brown sugar and golden syrup)
Maryland biscuits (chocolate chip cookies. My favourite kind is made with hazelnuts)
Jaffacakes (biscuits-sized cakes with an orange bit and covered in dark chocolate)
Cadbury fingers (chocolate covered biscuit, centre tastes like the cookie bit in a twix)
Double decker (like the bus, upper whipped nougat layer, cereal bottom in milk chocolate)
Curly Wurly (caramel and milk chocolate, tastes like the top part of a twix :) )

SoulFood at Borough Market. A seasoned shrimp wrap to die for!

Burger Fest? A festival for BURGERS? Say no more. Check out my post on that by clicking HERE

Udderlicious. THE best place to get ice cream. It's so good that anyone would make up ANY excuse to go to Islington just for a scoop of ice cream. But hey, if you're going that far, might as well get two ;)
This scoop of delight was STRAWBERRY and BASIL. What? Yes, best strawberry ice cream I've had to date.

Afternoon Tea at the Balcon. It was definitely interesting. Desserts, sandwiches and scones. Got some chamomile and peppermint tea. Clotted cream, raspberry-rosehip jam, and lemon curd for the scones. Nom nom nom.

Scones served the Devon way
Clotted cream first and jam on top

Sunday Roast! Truly my favourite British dish

Never had a Quarkini? If you know of a German bread shop anyway, go NOW. Don't walk. Run. These things are LEGIT. So soft and perfect. NOT a donut hole even though it look like one.

A homemade burger too big for a regular bun so the guy makes a special homemade size? Yes, please. Homemade, delicious patty. Lettuce. Cheddar. Tomato. Grilled onions. Grilled AUBERGINE (that's Eggplant in the Queen's English) and burger sauce. This should have won the Burger Fest number one slot, honestly. And the man selling them at his booth on Portobello Road was so nice! Got me a chair to sit in while I waited. Super sweet.

If there is something with aubergine on the menu, I choose that dish. I LOOOOVE eggplant. I wish I could eat more of it. But putting on a burger would never have crossed my mind. Good sir of Portobell Road, you win life.
